对比的区别是什么？

一、词义不同

1、 in contrast 意思是对照之下、与……成对比。强调形成对比、对照。

2、on the contrary 指恰恰相反、相反地，用来表示与之前的看法相反。

二、用法不同

1、In contrast 通常会与 to 或 with 连用，通常组成in contrast to/with+名词的固定结构。如：

In contrast to the diligent bee, the butterfly seems to fly around without a clear purpose.

与勤奋的蜜蜂相比，蝴蝶看起来是没有明确目的的飞来飞去。

2、on the contrary可以作为分句单独使用，常放在句首。如：

When I first met him, I thought he was a modest and gentle person. On the contrary, he is arrogant and ruthless.

当我第一次遇见他，我认为他是一个谦虚而温和的人。相反，他傲慢无情。

三、强调的重点不同

1、In contrast 强调对比两件事或两个人的不同之处。如：

In contrast with most local programs, the federal government’s plan looks beyond just economic growth.

与大多数地方项目相比，联邦政府的计划不仅仅着眼于经济增长。

2、On the contrary用来强调与先前的看法相反，或既不相同，或表示先前的看法不是真的，现在说的才是真的。如：

A: I hear you enjoy running.

我听说你喜欢跑步。

B: On the contrary, I find it to be tiresome.

恰恰相反，我觉得跑步很累。
