“research”和“investigation”的区别是什么？

investigation是正式或官方的调查,以弄清事实真相。

例子:the matter is the subject of a police investigation, and we have been advised not to comment.

这件事警方正在调查，我们得悉不要加以评论。

research 在学术上为了得到新的结果而从原始资料中进行调查指法律调查。

例子:research has shown that women live longer than men.

调查表明女性比男性寿命长。

survey和inquire也有调查的意思。

survey:多指为写书面报告而进行的民意测验或调查。

inquiry:普通常用词，指正式调查，也指一般的打听或查询。

research研究，调查，探究，着重探究，一般比较高深
