1、过去一般时表示过去某一时间所发生的动作或存在的状态。

2、过去一般时常和表示过去的状语连用，如a

ago，yesterday，last

week，in

1900，during

the

night，in

those

days等。

3、用过去一般时时，要说“过多少时间之后”，一般用after，不用in

Tom

suddenly

fell

ill

yesterday.

汤姆昨天突然病了。

They

got

married

last

year.

他们是去年结婚的。

They

had

a

baby

last

month.

他们上个月生了个小孩儿。

It

happened

after

three

days.

事情发生在3天以后。

4、过去一般时也可与since（自从）和for（经历）引导的词语连用。这时，句子的重点是谓语动词，而不是since和for所引导的句子成分。如：

happened

since

then.

打那以后什么事也没有发生。

5、过去一般时亦可与today，this

week，this

month，this

year等时间状语连用。但这些时间状语须指过去，决不包括“现在”在内。
