第84届奥斯卡颁奖典礼于美国东部时间2月26日晚19:00（北京时间2月27日早8:00）在“好莱坞高地中心”（原柯达剧场）举行，老牌谐星比利·克里斯托（Billy Crystal）担任嘉宾主持。由马丁·斯科塞斯(Martin Scorsese)执导的3D奇幻大作《雨果》（Hugo）以11项提名领跑2012年第84届奥斯卡金像奖，而《艺术家》（The Artist）则获得10项提名紧随其后，一共有9部佳作入围最佳影片奖提名，包括：《艺术家》、《后人》（The Descendants）、《特别响，非常近》（Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close）、《帮助》（The Help）、《雨果》、《午夜巴黎》（Midnight in Paris）、《点球成金》（Moneyball）、《生命之树》（The Tree of Life）、以及《战马》（War Horse），它们将一同角逐本届奥斯卡最佳影片大奖！
