play 的中文意思最常见的为「玩、扮演」，但是你可能不知道，play 还有很多其他的意思跟用法，例如play with、play up、play by…等等。

1.play 玩（比赛、运动）

例：We play soccer every week.

我们每周都会踢足球。

例：Let’s play a board game!

我们来玩桌游。

2. play 玩（指小孩子的玩耍），后面会接with

例：We used to play with the kids in our neighborhood.

我们曾经和附近的小孩玩在一起。

例：Do you like playing with dolls?

你喜欢玩洋娃娃吗？

若是用于大人之间的玩：

例：I hung out with my friends last weekend.

上周末我和我朋友出去玩。

例：I got together with my friends last weekend.

上周末我和朋友聚会。

3. play 扮演

例：Keanu Reeves played Neo in the Matrix series.

基努里维斯在Matrixv系列中扮演Neo的角色。

＝He performed in the role of Neo in the Matrix series.

例：I want to play a dramatic role someday.

我希望有一天能演一个有戏剧性的角色。

4. 假装、装扮

例：He’s playing dumb. He knows the answer.

他在装哑吧。他知道答案。

例：I taught my dog to play dead.

我教我的狗装死。

5. 演奏、弹奏、播放

例：The DJ played a lot of great music last night.

昨晚DJ演奏了很多很棒的音乐。

例：Have you ever played this on piano?

你曾用钢琴弹过这个吗？

6. to play (something) by ear 到时候再说吧、随兴所至

表示没有任何计划，到那时再做决定

例：We have no plans for the day ; we’re just gonna play it by ear.

我们那天没有计划，就到时候再说吧！

例：I don’t want to plan my travels too much ; I prefer to play things by ear.

我不想在旅行上计画太多 ; 我比较喜欢随兴点。

7. to play with fire 玩火，指冒险行事

例：You want to confront the CEO about her mistakes? Don’t play with fire.

你想要对抗执行长的错误？别玩火了。

例：He’s trying to date 3 people at the same time ; he’s playing with fire.

他试图同时约会三个人，他在玩火吧！

8. to play up 夸大(俚语)

例：My parents always play up my achievements.

我的父母总是夸大我的成就。

例：Be careful not to play yourself up on your resume ; it might cause problems in the future.

小心别在履历上夸大自己，那在未来可能会引起问题。
